Where do nuts come from?

Where do nuts come from?

At Handful HQ this is a common question that we encounter.

What realm are peanuts classified under? Are they fruit or veg or a bean? Do they grow on trees?

So many questions about the humble peanut...

You’ll be surprised to learn that peanuts grow underground and not on a tree. Above the ground the peanut plants flowers whilst below the surface the peanut is made. Peanuts are harvested at the end of growing season when the leaves turn yellow.

Peanuts are legumes, not nuts. A legume refers to any plant that includes its leaves, stems, and pods. Legumes include beans, lentils, peas and peanuts.

At Real Handful our peanuts come all the way from Argentina. These nuts are good nuts and are classified as high-oleic peanuts, this helps boost good cholesterol. Once we get our hands of them here at Handful HQ, they are packed in the UK using widely recyclable packaging.

Now you know where nuts come from, you probably want to know how to get your hands on them! Find them at Asda, Waitrose, Ocado, Co-op and Amazon.
